Any Pet Will Do by Nancy Shouse
![]()
9-year-old Jeremy really wants a pet, but his parents are concerned that he isn’t old enough to look after one properly. Jeremy decides to offer pet-sitting services, so that he can demonstrate just how responsible he can be.
Soon friends and neighbours are dropping off their animals, and Jeremy is learning that caring for pets, large or small, mammal, bird, reptile or fish, can be far more complicated than he ever imagined! Oh, he manages pretty well with the budgie, except that his parents want to take over, and the hamster is okay, other than frightening his teacher out of her wits, but the guinea pig gets Jeremy into real trouble, and the snake simply terrifies him!
Will Jeremy ever convince his parents that he’s ready for a pet of his own, and will he ever find one that’s just perfect for him?
This is a good book for anyone who has a pet, or wants to get one! Any Pet Will Do is the winner of the 2007 Silver Birch Express prize!
