Grumpy Bird by Jeremy Tankard
![]()
When Bird wakes up grumpy, one morning, he is too grouchy to fly, so he sets out on foot. Greeted first by one friend and then another, Bird clearly wants to be left alone but, despite his attempts to deter them, every one of his friends decides to join him on his walk.
Bird stalks on, increasingly irritated, as the crowd of friends grows larger, yet none of them appear to notice his bad mood. Or perhaps, as one young reader in my library suggested, they simply prove that friends are friends no matter how temperamental you get. Finally, Bird realizes how ridiculous the strange parade of creatures trailing after him must look, and regains his good humour.
Grumpy Bird is a simple and clever book about a small bird in the grips of a large black mood. Its illustrations are both colourful and fun. This book improves with each new reading!
