OLA Reading

Our school has participated in the Ontario Library Association’s Blue Spruce, Silver Birch and Red Maple Reading Programs for a decade. Designed for students in grades 1, 2 and 3, grades 4, 5 and 6, and grades 7, 8 and 9, these programs invite students to read nominated fiction and non-fiction recently published Canadian titles, and then to vote for their favourites.
Nominated titles are announced in mid-October. Students begin to read the nominated books just as soon as they arrive in the school library. Students who read a minimum of five of the ten nominated titles in any division are encouraged to vote for their favourite book. Voting results will sent to the OLA in April, where they then help to determine the winners of the Blue Spruce, Silver Birch, Silver Birch Express, and Red Maple prizes.
